I had a lot of free time somehow last weekend so I was able to accomplish a lot over the weekend which led to a lot less stressful week. This week we talked about the effectiveness of our differentiation in #Givercraft and I think since mine is really straight forward in how I will assess it, I was able to move a little quicker through things.
I really don’t understand Minecraft, no matter how much I try, so I know a lot of people are doing things within the world, but really that isn’t something that is going to happen for me. In return, this does make my life a little bit easier, because my differentiation isn’t as intense. However, I do really like reading about people’s ideas on their blogs about what they are doing in Minecraft and wish I had the knowledge of Minecraft or someone to teach me how to play well. Maybe this summer when there’s nothing else to do I’ll learn more. With a few classes, teaching, homework, grading, and everything else we have going on in our personal lives, sitting down and learning the game just hasn’t actually gotten to happen.
I think the next few weeks will definitely be a learning experience of how to effectively use a game in a class to teach students about different topics, ideas, concepts, etc. I’m looking forward to at least just going into the world and walking around and seeing what students have accomplished. I’m sure it’ll be way beyond my expectations that I’m currently envisioning.
With all this Minecraft talk though the last couple weeks, I have been working on my unit plan and decided one of the ways students can choose to do their final projects is through using Minecraft. At least if I haven’t personally learned it, I have realized it is a way to have students who love it and understand it be able to use it in class.
