The differentiation in Givercraft which I am going to be focusing on and leading is for those students who may not know how to play Minecraft at all or well as well as those who are more motivated through doing school work (although anyone may participate). I have done a lot of talking to students and it seems through my discussions playing Minecraft rather than doing traditional school work is about 50/50. I have decided to focus on the students who are more willing to do the traditional school work.
In Scenario 3 students have to create an alternate ending and use your text for citations throughout your building, with signs, chests and books. Include in the ending Jonas’s journey, the memories the Giver gave to Jonas and what the community looks like at the end of the story. Write a summary of what you built and why. Post your summary and screenshots of what you built to your wiki. While some students will easily be able to build a really neat alternate ending, others may not be able too. Some will write a few sentences explaining their building, but others may not be able to show an alternate ending through building in Minecraft, but would be able to write a really good summary describing their alternate ending.
If students want to gain another badge, those who can be successful in Minecraft and those who might not have the skills, students can write a good summary on their wikispace. If students write a summary that is at least 12 sentences, with no grammatical/spelling errors, they will be able to get a Grammar Boss Badge to add to their arsenal of winnings.
